Indoor or outdoor, cats in NZ meet fleas. They hitchhike on people and gear and thrive in warm rooms. A reliable monthly spot-on or a long-acting option, plus a light home routine, keeps things under control.
Most cats do best with a spot-on placed high on the neck where they can’t lick. Separate housemates that like to groom each other until the site is dry. Long-acting options reduce how often you need to apply.
Application tips
Part the coat to clean, dry skin
Apply high on the neck; avoid the shoulder blades if your cat can reach them
Keep kids and other pets away from the site until dry
Treat every cat on the same day. Vacuum rugs, sofa seams and cat trees and empty the vacuum outside. Hot-wash blankets and favourite beds. Keep this up weekly for three months if you’ve seen fleas.

Cat-only products for cats; never use a dog product on a cat
Match current weight band and minimum age
Do not stack different spot-ons unless your vet advises
Do indoor-only cats really need prevention?
Yes. Fleas ride in on clothing and gear, and can live in soft furnishings.
Can I bathe my cat after dosing?
Give the product the label’s dry time before bathing. Many cats prefer grooming over baths, so brushing and vacuuming do most of the work.
