Tick awareness for coastal regions in New Zealand

    Introduction

Coastal scrub, dune grass and bush edges near beaches can carry ticks, especially after warm rain. You do not need a complex routine. Keep prevention on schedule and add a quick check after outdoor days.

    Where exposure rises

Long grass behind dunes, sheltered coastal tracks and scrubby reserves hold moisture and shade. Spring and summer are busier, but sheltered spots can stay active after rain or mild spells.

    Daily check and safe removal

After walks, run hands over the coat and skin. Look at lips and chin, ear edges, under the collar, armpits, groin, between toes and tail base. To remove a tick, part the coat, grip close to the skin with a tick tool or fine-tipped tweezers and lift straight out with steady pressure. Seal the tick and watch your pet for a day or two.

    Coastal habits that help

    • Rinse salt and sand after beach time

    • Towel dry to the skin

    • Shake out car rugs and air them in the sun

    Products we trust

    Safety basics

Dog products for dogs and cat products for cats. Match weight band and minimum age. Avoid stacking preventives unless your vet advises.
