Pregnancy and lactation change a dog’s needs. Keep environments clean, avoid new exposures, and speak with your vet before giving any product. Your clinic will confirm options and timing for your dog’s weight, health and stage.
Book a pre breeding check. Confirm current weight, teeth and skin health, and discuss a parasite plan that covers fleas, ticks and worms through pregnancy and nursing. Set reminders now so dose dates do not clash with due dates.
Focus on the basics you control at home. Keep bedding clean and dry, vacuum high traffic areas and car mats, and avoid long grass or dense scrub where ticks live. Keep other pets on time with their own prevention to reduce household pressure.
Clean whelping areas daily and wash bedding often. Puppies are sensitive, so avoid unapproved products near them and keep application sites away from curious mouths. Your vet will set a worming plan for the litter and advise on timing for mum.
What to ask your vet
Which product options are appropriate for pregnancy and lactation for my dog
Exact dose timing relative to due date and nursing
How to coordinate mum’s plan with the litter’s worm schedule
Any interactions with current medicines or supplements
Only use preventives your vet confirms are appropriate for your dog during pregnancy or nursing. Under veterinary guidance, many families use:
Monthly fleas and ticks: NexGard Chewables for Dogs
Monthly all in one: Simparica Trio Chewable Tablet for Dogs
Longer acting fleas and ticks: Bravecto Chew for Dogs
On pet collar option: Seresto Flea & Tick Collar for Dogs
Vet first for pregnancy and lactation decisions
Dose to current weight and follow label ages
Keep products and application sites away from puppies
Do not stack preventives unless your vet advises
Can I keep using the same product through pregnancy
Only on your vet’s advice. Labels differ between products and between countries.
Do I need to treat the house
Most families manage with a light, steady clean and on time prevention for other pets.

Vomiting can be caused by anything from a simple tummy upset to something more serious. The key is knowing what is normal, what is not, and when your dog needs a checkup.
