Parasite prep for wet weeks in New Zealand

    Introduction

After rain, warm indoor rooms and damp mats help flea stages hatch, and ticks stay active on bush edges. Keep prevention on schedule and make drying a habit so moisture does not undo your good work.

    Drying routines that matter

Rinse off mud, then towel dry to the skin, not just the surface. Open the coat with your fingers on long or double coats. Air door mats and car rugs in the sun when the weather breaks. Run a dehumidifier in small rooms if they stay damp.

    Weekly rhythm during wet spells

    • Vacuum rugs, skirting and sofa seams and empty the vacuum outside

    • Hot wash pet bedding and dry thoroughly

    • Shake out crate liners and travel blankets and let them air

    Walks and tick checks

Stick to paths where you can. After reserves or long grass, do a two minute tick check: ear edges, under the collar, armpits, groin, between toes, tail base.

    Make the schedule stick

Pick one house dose day. Treat every pet on that date and set a phone reminder. Store products cool and dry, away from damp sheds or glovebox heat.
