Baches are fun and busy. Old rugs, sandy decks and shared dog beds can carry hidden flea stages. Keep protection steady and tidy sleeping spots so holidays stay comfortable. Guidance reviewed with our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.
Dose a few days early so coverage is active on arrival. Pack the next dose if it falls mid-trip, plus a small towel, a tick tool and a spare bed cover with your dog’s scent.
Bach habits that help
Air and sun-dry guest dog beds and rugs
Rinse off salt or lake water and towel dry to the skin
Shake car mats after beach runs and let them dry before bringing them inside
Keep food sealed and bins lidded so pests do not visit
Ask that visiting pets are up to date. If many dogs are staying, run a two-minute tick check each night: ear edges, under the collar, armpits, groin, between toes, tail base. Keep a light vacuum and bedding wash going through the stay.
Monthly fleas and ticks: NexGard Chewables for Dogs
Monthly all in one: Simparica Trio Chewable Tablet for Dogs
Longer acting fleas and ticks: Bravecto Chew for Dogs
Collar option when worn continuously: Seresto Flea & Tick Collar for Dogs
Dose to today’s weight and follow label ages. Store products cool and dry, not on sunny windowsills or dashboards. Do not stack different preventives unless your vet advises.
We saw a flea on an old bach rug even after dosing. Normal
Yes. Hidden stages can emerge from stored fabrics. Keep dosing on time and run the light clean for a few weeks after the trip.
