Holiday travel with pets in New Zealand: parasite checklist

    Introduction

Trips and bach stays change routines. Different regions have different tick pressure, and holiday homes can harbour leftover flea stages. A small checklist keeps protection steady while you relax.

    Before you go

    • Dose a few days early so protection is active

    • Pack the next dose if the due date lands mid-trip

    • Re-weigh and confirm the correct weight band

    • Add a tick tool or fine-tipped tweezers to your kit

    On the road

    • Keep products cool and dry in the vehicle

    • After bush or beach stops, do a quick tick check

    • Shake out travel blankets; brush sand and leaf litter off mats

At the bach (or holiday park)

    • Vacuum rugs and soft furnishings if available; empty the vacuum outside

    • Hot-wash pet bedding and dry thoroughly

    • Keep food sealed and bins lidded to deter wildlife visitors

    Coming home

    • Keep a light weekly clean going for a few weeks if you saw fleas

    • Reset reminders to your usual home schedule

    • Re-weigh growing pets and update bands

    Products we trust

    Safety basics

    • Species matters. Never use a dog product on a cat

    • Match weight band and minimum age

    • Avoid stacking preventatives unless your vet advises

    FAQ

Do I need to change products for a coastal trip?
Usually no. Stay on time, add a daily tick check, and pack a spare dose.

    Will swims wash protection off?
Chews aren’t washed off by water. Follow label dry times for any spot-ons you use.
