Get rid of fleas fast in New Zealand: 90-day plan

    Introduction

Seeing fleas is stressful, but the fix is straightforward. Treat every pet on time and keep a light cleaning rhythm for long enough to clear the hidden stages that keep hatching. Guidance reviewed with our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.

    Why 90 days

Adult fleas die quickly after dosing, but eggs and pupae in rugs and bedding keep emerging for weeks. A three-month window lets your prevention outlast those stages.

    Week 1: reset the house

Treat every dog and cat using the correct weight band. Vacuum rugs, skirting and sofa seams and empty the vacuum outside. Hot-wash pet bedding and favourite blankets and dry thoroughly. Shake and sun-dry car mats.

    Weeks 2–4: steady rhythm

Keep doses on schedule. Vacuum twice a week and wash bedding weekly. Rinse salt, sand or mud after outings and towel dry to the skin so mats do not stay damp.

    Weeks 5–12: maintenance

Drop to weekly vacuuming and bedding washes. If you see the odd flea, stay the course — that is a late hatch, not failure.
