Flea control for curly coated dogs in New Zealand

    Introduction

Curls trap warm air and flea dirt close to the skin. A steady prevention plan paired with simple grooming keeps curly coated dogs comfortable. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.

    Grooming that supports prevention

Work to the skin. Lift curls with a slicker brush, then use a comb to check the neck, rump and tail base. A fine flea comb helps you spot black gritty flea dirt. Keep problem areas clipped tidy so air can circulate and product can do its job.

    Weekly rhythm

    • Full brush and quick flea comb check

    • Hot wash bedding and dry thoroughly

    • Vacuum rugs, sofa seams and car mats, then empty the vacuum outside

    Choosing a format

Curly coats often suit oral chews because nothing sits on the fur. Collars can help if fitted correctly and worn all the time. Pick the format you will give on time every month, or choose a longer acting option if you prefer fewer dates.

    Bathing and drying

Use lukewarm water and rinse very well so curls dry light. Towel dry to the skin and finish with airflow. After beach days, rinse salt and sand and dry thoroughly.
