Some pets are allergic to flea saliva. One or two bites can trigger intense itch, scabs and hair loss, especially around the tail base. Steady prevention and gentle skin care reduce flare-ups. Guidance reviewed with input from Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.
Look for sudden itch, chewing or over-grooming at the tail base, rump, belly or inner thighs. You may not see fleas, only black grit (flea dirt) or scabs from scratching.
Treat every dog and cat in the house with the correct weight band. Start a 90-day environment reset: vacuum rugs and sofa seams, hot-wash bedding, and keep mats clean and dry. Use lukewarm baths and a mild, vet-approved shampoo if bathing helps your pet relax.
Comfort tips during a flare
Towel dry to the skin after rain or baths
Brush gently to remove loose hair around sore zones
Keep nails trimmed to reduce skin damage from scratching
If your pet has raw skin, ear issues, hot spots, or the itch does not settle within a few days on prevention, book a check. Your vet can prescribe relief for the itch, treat any infection and confirm the best product plan.

We never see fleas. Could it still be FAD
Yes. Allergic pets can react to very small exposures. Keep prevention steady and run the 90-day reset.
