Parasite control for NZ dog daycare and catteries

    Introduction

Good kennels and catteries ask for current parasite prevention because shared spaces raise exposure. A little prep keeps check-in smooth and your pet comfortable while you are away.

    Before check-in

Confirm the facility’s requirements for flea, tick and worm cover. Dose a few days before arrival so protection is active. Reweigh pets and buy the correct band. If your next dose falls mid-stay, leave it with written instructions and label it with your pet’s name.

    What to pack

    • A copy of recent dose dates

    • Your next dose if due during the stay

    • A familiar bed cover to reduce stress

    • A small brush or flea comb

    While your pet is boarding

Most facilities vacuum and wash bedding regularly. If your pet wears a collar, make sure it is snug and stays on. For cats on spot-ons, ask staff to keep cats apart until the application site is dry.

    Pick-up day

Do a quick hands-on check in the car park and again at home. Rinse and dry travel rugs. Keep your usual weekly vacuum and bedding wash going for a few weeks in case hidden stages come home on soft items.
