    Dog worming schedule in Australia

    Introduction

A clear worming schedule protects your dog and your family. Intestinal worms are common and heartworm is a separate risk spread by mosquitoes. Build a simple plan you can follow every time. This guide was prepared with input from our lead vet, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.

    Puppy worming schedule (guide)

    • Every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age.

    • Monthly from 12 weeks to 6 months.

    • Then every 3 months for intestinal worms, unless your product label advises otherwise.
Always follow the label for the product you use and ask your vet if your puppy has health issues or is underweight.

    Adult dog worming

Most adult dogs need intestinal worming every 3 months. If your dog hunts, eats raw meat, or lives with children, stay strict with timing. Heartworm prevention is separate unless you use a combo product.

    Heartworm prevention

Start from puppy age as advised on the label and continue year-round. Monthly chews are a simple way to cover heartworm alongside fleas and ticks. If you miss doses or are switching products, ask your vet if testing is needed.

    Simple reminders that work

    • Add a repeating phone calendar event on dose day.

    • Keep the box near the food bowl as a visual cue.

    • Assign one person as the “dose captain” in busy homes.

    Safety you should always check

    • Weigh your dog and pick the correct weight band every time.

    • Check minimum age before first use.

    • Dog products for dogs only. Never use a dog product on a cat.

    • Do not stack different wormers unless your vet tells you to.

    Products we trust

    • Simparica Trio Chewable Tablet for Dogs — monthly chew that covers fleas and ticks, heartworm prevention, and intestinal worms when used as directed. Match the weight band and follow the label.

    FAQ

Can I align worming with flea and tick dosing?
Yes. A combo product makes scheduling simple. Dose on the same day each month.

My dog missed worming for a while. What now?
Give a dose today and talk to your vet about whether testing is needed before restarting heartworm prevention.

Does my indoor-only dog still need worming?
Yes. Worm eggs can come in on shoes and in soil. Keep to the schedule.
