Puppies explore everything, which is great for learning but perfect for picking up fleas. Start a simple plan early so your pup stays comfortable while they grow. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.
Begin once your puppy reaches the label’s minimum age and weight for the product you choose. Growth is fast, so check weight before each purchase and move up to the correct band as needed.
Most families prefer chews because they keep working through baths and swims. Choose a product you can give on time every month or a longer acting option if you prefer fewer dates. Treat every dog in the household on the same day.
Quick start checklist
Weigh your puppy and choose the correct band
Give the first dose on a date you will remember
Set a repeating phone reminder so you never miss it
Vacuum rugs, skirting, sofa seams and car mats. Empty the vacuum outside. Hot wash your puppy’s bedding and favourite blankets and dry them thoroughly. These small steps help the environment clear while prevention does the main work.
Puppies often visit the vet for vaccinations and worm plans. Bring your flea product name and last dose date so your vet can confirm the mix is right for age, weight and any other medicines.
Monthly all in one: Simparica Trio Chewable Tablet for Dogs
Monthly fleas and ticks: NexGard Chewables for Dogs
Longer acting fleas and ticks: Bravecto Chew for Dogs
On pet collar option: Seresto Flea & Tick Collar for Dogs
Dog products for dogs only
Match current weight band and minimum age every time
Do not split chews to make a size
If you travel to Australia, ask your vet about heartworm cover before you go
My puppy is still scratching after the first dose. Is that normal?
Yes. Hidden stages can keep emerging for a while. Stay on time and keep the light clean up going.
We have an older dog too. Do both need treatment?
Yes. Treat every dog on the same day so you do not leave gaps.
