Toy and small breeds feel flea bites more and can lose condition quickly if things get out of hand. Keep prevention simple and sized correctly, and pair it with a light home routine. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.
Most small dogs do well on oral chews. Pick a flavour your dog accepts and a pack that matches today’s weight. Long-acting options suit busy families that prefer fewer dates to remember.
Helpful tips
Offer the chew as a treat after a small meal
If your dog is fussy, place the chew in a small meatball
Never split chews to make a size
Re-weigh every 1–2 months while your dog is still filling out
Vacuum rugs, sofa seams and car mats, then empty the vacuum outside. Hot-wash bedding and favourite blankets and dry well. If you have seen fleas, keep a weekly rhythm for three months while hidden stages clear.
