Flea control for allergy prone dogs in New Zealand

    Introduction

Allergy prone dogs can flare from a single flea bite. The goal is simple bite prevention you can keep on schedule, plus gentle skin care and a tidy home routine. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.

Keep bites to an absolute minimum

Choose a proven preventive you can give on time every month, or a longer acting option if you prefer fewer dates. Oral chews suit many sensitive dogs because nothing sits on the coat. Treat every dog in the home on the same day.

    Helpful habits

    • Tie dose day to a fixed date you will remember

    • Add a phone reminder and note the next due date on the box

    • Reweigh every few months to stay in the correct band

    Gentle skin and coat care

Use lukewarm baths and a mild, vet approved shampoo. Rinse very well and dry the coat fully before bed. A soft brush around the neck ruff and tail base lifts flea dirt and lets you spot trouble early.

House routine that supports the skin

Vacuum rugs, skirting and sofa seams and empty the vacuum outside. Hot wash bedding and favourite blankets and dry thoroughly. Keep a weekly rhythm for three months if you have seen fleas.

When to talk to your vet

Persistent chewing, hot spots, hair loss or ear irritation warrant a check. Short term anti itch care may be needed while prevention does the heavy lifting.

    Products we trust

    Safety basics

    • Dog products for dogs only

    • Match current weight band and minimum age

    • Do not stack preventives unless your vet advises

    • If your dog is on other medicines, check with your vet before dosing

    FAQ

Is one bite really enough to flare my dog
Yes for some dogs. That is why on time prevention is the cornerstone.
Can I bathe on dose day
Chews are not affected by water. Collars should stay on as directed.
